God Loves Me?
When Christ was questioned by the Pharisees’ which of the commandments was the greatest, it was “"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'”, but Christ felt compelled to add a second commandment to his answer, “'Love your neighbor as yourself”. There is an implication here that many people miss. You must also know how to love yourself. We quickly embrace ministry opportunities to care for others somehow trying to please God when many times the answer should be “no”. Our responsibility first and foremost is to receive love. We must be able to admit we have needs.
If you are like me it is much easier to love others than to allow others to love me. I just don’t feel worthy. I think we have it backwards in our churches in today’s society. We should first teach others how to receive love instead of loading their backs with mission work, Wednesday night pot lucks suppers or teaching Sunday school classes. What an unusual concept. I think Christ said it best, “To be great you must serve”. Maybe we could have a feet washing service for the Sunday school teachers.
Remember the verse 1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us. If you have never experienced God’s love from another how can you possibly show it to someone else? Do something for yourself today. Spend time with people who want to give God’s love to you. Let others minister to you; only then will the love you give be complete which is Gods love. J. Williford, Gearhart & Knight, Inc. contracted with the Mississippi Military Department to perform a system wide sanitary sewer evaluation and subsequent rehabilitation project at Camp Shelby. The purpose of the project was to greatly reduce the inflow and infiltration that occurs during heavy rainfalls.
Camp Shelby’s sewer system and treatment plant were constructed for World War II level populations, estimated at 100,000 troops. The treatment plant was designed for 1 million gallons per day of flow. Today Shelby’s population is 1,000 full-time military and civilian personnel with 5,000-7,000 troops stationed there for training. The average flow from today’s population should be approximately 200,000 gallons per day. With a peak population of 10,000, the average flow should be 1MGD.
The facility is an activated sludge treatment plant and therefore requires a consistent average flow to support the treatment processes. The population fluctuations inherent at a training base make it nearly impossible to operate the facility and keep it in compliance. Added to this problem is the severe I &I that enters the system from the deteriorated pipes. During heavy rains the flow can spike to several million gallons per day. In order to move forward with plans to abandon the old plant and construct a new 1 million gallon per day lagoon system, which could more readily handle fluctuating flows, the system needed to be rehabilitated to reduce I & I.
WGK performed the evaluation including: a visual inspection over 500 manholes, extensive mapping of the sewer pipe network, smoke testing, flow monitoring, and an evaluation of active and inactive sewers. A comprehensive report was generated documenting the deficiencies and making recommendations for a rehabilitation project that is under construction at this time.
Several major components of the sewer system were targeted during the rehabilitation project. First, rehabilitation of manholes was specified, consisting of the application of a cementitious liner and sealing of the annular space between old slip-liners and the host pipes. Second, rehabilitation of the sewer lines using Cured In Place Pipe methods and technology. Third, installation of new sewer infrastructure in order to “kill” large un-used sub-basins within the pipe network that remained connected to the system. The total project cost of the improvements is approximately $4,000,000. Rainfall data and wastewater treatment plant flows are measured at Camp Shelby every day. After the proposed improvements were made to the system the average daily flow was reduced to approximately 250,000 gallons per day; which is well below the 1 MGD average daily flow discharge permit.
Hats off to the WGK Survey Crew
I heard through the WGK grapevine that the survey department went above and beyond the call of duty on the King Daughters project in Yazoo City several weeks ago. This project was a rush and the only way to possibly meet the deadline was to put the entire survey crew on the job. Not only did they work Saturdays and Sundays to meet the deadline, I hear all of the guys were sick the entire time with a “yucky” virus and fever. According to Survey Manager, Bob Grobe, the crew suffered through their illness to meet the project deadline, did not complain one time and did a wonderful job.
