Kiln Regional Water

System Improvements

WGK, as a sub consultant to Garner Russell & Associates, recently completed for the Hancock County Utility Authority (HCUA) the design and regulatory approval process for a 1,000 gallon per minute potable water well with controls, a 500,000 gallon steel elevated water storage tank, and controls for electric valves which are to be connected to Kiln Water and Fire Protection District distribution system.  These projects are part of the Gulf Region Water and Wastewater Plan Disaster Recovery Emergency Projects.  A separate water distribution main being designed by Garner Russell & Associates will compliment the well and tank projects to provide water to the Kiln community and the Kiln Water and Fire Protection District.

The potable water well project consists of drilling a 1,000 feet deep test hole, two test wells, collection of two water samples from two different sand strata, a 1,000 GPM permanent well, a diesel stand-by generator with automatic transfer switch, a chlorination system, a chlorine leak detection system, and a local control and alarm system with the capabilities for integration into a HCUA system wide SCADA system.  Necessary site improvements are part of the project as well.  The opinion of probable construction cost for the well project is $930,000.

The 500,000 gallon steel elevated tank project consists of obtaining construction costs for a 154 foot overflow multi-legged tank and single pedestal tank.  Necessary site improvements are part of the project as well.  The opinion of probable construction cost for the multi-legged tank is $1,125,000 and for the single pedestal tank is $1,560,000.

Advertisement for Bids for both projects has been set for mid July 2008.  If you’re interested in obtaining additional information for either of these projects please contact the WGK Clinton office at 601-925-4444.

Silence

I am really struggling to write this article today. It is amazing how sometimes the topic and the focus pour out of your soul like water from a fountain, while other times God seems distant. I hate when it feels like God is distant from me. I usually start analyzing myself to see if somehow my sin is keeping me from hearing him, or if I am not working hard enough. Could it be that God is holding out on me?

I finally had to leave the office to begin to be able to hear what God was saying to me. I didn’t even notice the clues that he was giving me, like a verse from a friend that was e-mailed to me. The Psalm reads, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him”.

God doesn’t really like to compete against the world for attention. He longs for a relationship with us, which means many times alone and in silence. Sometimes God isn’t speaking because I am not available (to busy), so if you feel like God is somehow distancing himself from you, quickly look in the mirror and realize you are the one who is distancing from him.

Spend time with God in quiet isolation and listen; He still speaks.

Thanks for the article God!

Reducing Stress

Arthur Lee Evans, Jr.

Mayor

of

Crystal

Springs Mississippi

www.crystalspringsmiss.com

If you are one of the millions of stressed-out Americans, there's good news. People can learn to manage stress. Start with these tips:

·         Keep a positive attitude.

·         Accept that there are events that you cannot control.

·         Be assertive instead of aggressive. "Assert" your feelings, opinions, or beliefs instead of becoming angry, defensive, or passive.

·         Learn and practice relaxation techniques.

·         Exercise regularly. Your body can fight stress better when it is fit.

·         Eat healthy, well-balanced meals.

·         Get enough rest and sleep. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events.

·         Don't rely on alcohol or drugs to reduce stress.

·         Seek out social support.

·         Learn to manage your time more effectively.

Start Your Hurricane Preparations Early

The most IMPORTANT THING you can do as HURRICANE SEASON
approaches is to get yourself, your family and your home prepared.

By starting early, you'll avoid the rush at home supply stores, grocery stores and other     venues typically crowded and often chaotic when hurricane watches and warnings are issued.

You should stock six basics for your home: water, food, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools and emergency supplies, and special items. Keep the items you would most likely need during an evacuation in an easy-to carry container—suggested items are marked with an asterisk (*). Possible containers include a large, covered trash container, a camping backpack, or a duffle bag.

Make your preparations easier by downloading the checklists included with each category and use them as you shop and store your supplies.

HURRICANE SAFETY CHECKLIST

·         FOOD & WATER

·         FIRST AID AND NON PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

·         TOOLS & SUPPLIES

·         SANITATION, CLOTHING AND BEDDING

·         SPECIAL ITEMS

·         POSSESSIONS AND DOCUMENTS
