Southside Wastewater Treatment Facility

WGK evaluated the existing systems and studied the environmental impact of a new water and sewer system. Recommendations were based on a planning area to include city limits and potential annexation areas, 90-square miles. Particulars on the project included, recommendations for sewer improvements included wastewater treatment facilities, large sewer interceptors, collection systems for unsewered areas and pump stations. Recommendations for water included replacing aging water wells and providing additional storage capacity to meet requirements based on usage and population growth. Water Distribution System Improvements were recommended to address hydraulic and pressure deficiencies within the system. Recommendations were made based on current system performance and deficiencies as well as anticipated future population growth from estimates provided by the Mississippi Planning and Development District. Assistance with property acquisitions and easements, cost estimates for immediate improvements were prepared. A schedule of improvements encompassing the 20-year planning period for the water and wastewater systems, including pump stations, 18-36 feet of gravity sewer and a 3.5 MGD WWTF. Decommissioning (3) existing WWTFs. Design, Environmental Impact, Contract and Construction Review Administration. The project construction value: approximately $9,000,000.
