Biloxi Bay Bridge Replacement

Client:

Mississippi Department of Transportation

Location:

Biloxi, Mississippi · Harrison County

After the passage of Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 29, 2005, the Biloxi Bay Bridge carrying U.S. Highway 90 and the adjacent CSX railroad bridge lay destroyed in Biloxi Bay. To restore the highway with a new span as quickly as possible, MDOT and FHA decided on the Design-Build method of project delivery. The GC Constructors team—which consisted of WGK, Inc., Kiewit Corp., Massman Construction Co., Parsons Transportation Group, and Traylor Brothers, Inc.,—completed the design and construction of the $339 million project within budget in a little more than 22 months, about 45 days ahead of schedule.
