Kemper County Energy Facility Water Supply Upgrades

Kemper County Energy Facility · Mississippi · Kemper County

With construction ongoing at the $2.88 billion Kemper County Energy Facility, an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle coal-fired power plant being built on a 3,000-acre site near DeKalb, demand for utilities is high. After more than one year into the project, the more than 500 workers that had arrived generated a greater demand for domestic water than was being delivered by the Northwest Kemper Water Association's 4-inch supply lines. The water association directed WGK, Inc. to design an accelerated-schedule project to increase water supply to the construction site to 400 gallons per minute, with a new line run directly from the association's central treatment plant. The project was designed and completed in 8 months.

  • Installation of 33,000 linear feet of 8-inch PVC water main.
  • Installation of 12 gate valves.
  • Installation of valve puts and blow-off assemblies.
  • Directional boring and casing.
  • Construction of a 97-foot glass-lined standpipe water storage tank.
  • 30 driveway repairs.
  • Total Project Cost: $780,000.
