Brookhaven Citywide Sewer Rehabilitation

City of Brookhaven

Brookhaven, Mississippi · Lincoln County

As the City of Brookhaven grew, sections of its sanitary sewer network continued to age well beyond its useful life span, with demand increasing by the day. Brookhaven’s leaders were quite weary of overflows caused by inflow and infiltration and collapsed lines, and the discharge of raw sewage into ditches along the streets. These problems were occuring in several parts of the city. WGK, Inc., devised a plan for replacing the majority of the aging system that called for phased upgrades over a four-year period. By the time the project ended in late 2010, almost 20,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer piping and 1,500 linear feet of service connections had been installed in six city segments.

  • Coordination with Environmental Protection Agency, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and Mississippi Department of Transportation.
  • Securing of all rights-of-way.
  • Installation of 21,006 linear feet of various sized sanitary sewer piping.
  • Installation of 1,500 linear feet of service connections.
  • Installation of 92 48-inch standard manholes.
  • Installation of 159 permanent plugs.
  • Addition of 1,595 tons of asphalt for street and trench repairs.
  • Connection to existing system.
  • Preparation of records and maps upon project completion.
  • Total Project Cost: $2.3 million.
